This cute lil' guy brings a smile every time I use him!<br />He comes with an assortment of accessories such as his dog, guitar, moon, fence, stars etc...all kinds of goodies to color up with Copics.<br />This buck-a-roo is the reason I hoard all the music paper designer paper I can find!</div>

It has been ages since I joined a Card Swap with the gang and I really miss it. It's a great way to build up your greeting card stash, add some neat different styles and get some wonderful ideas!<br />With this swap, we send in six and get five different ones back. The hostess keeps one for herself as a gift for being the host and doing all the work of dividing up the cards and then mailing them back out to everyone. I would love to receive this same lil' guy in a completely different design!</div>

<br />
I've seen a lot of cute cards with this image and have always wanted it for the challenge.<br />
It was especially challenging with having limited markers. I'm looking forward to tackling it again and switching up some of the colors. <br />
Half way through I realized I didn't have a coordinating designer paper picked out and luckily had a deep burgundy scrap sheet that I was able to salvage. It didn't really quite look right, so I made it appear more vintage by taking a chocolate ink pad and dragging it along the edges. Then I went more heavily on the corners and really like the difference and the way it turned out. I used the Nestiblities again and embossed it too, then propped it up with dimensional tape pads.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUwrMUcdLHcZStKZWp5xiMxO-kFjzKydC7xyIx7PYa1eHR3qd9E8uO23wbYjjJJkW4HZrlRHPz4cr1YdS7hp5QEuZ8eRaAQh5u2bVQM-rxBNfqo_jbEJiYF2uTat0oI8N-dW0XGhPi_jD3/s1600/colors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUwrMUcdLHcZStKZWp5xiMxO-kFjzKydC7xyIx7PYa1eHR3qd9E8uO23wbYjjJJkW4HZrlRHPz4cr1YdS7hp5QEuZ8eRaAQh5u2bVQM-rxBNfqo_jbEJiYF2uTat0oI8N-dW0XGhPi_jD3/s1600/colors.jpg" height="320" width="317" /></a></div>
It seemed like I was picking up every color I owned and then some. These were the chosen colors and in many areas they were applied heavily in layers to get a different color. For instance the mantel. I wanted a deep, rich, brown color but had used the few I had. So I used E19, and E35. Then went back later and added E08.<br />
Same for the cat. I struggled with what color the cat could be.<br />
It was also really tempting not to mix the warm greys with the cool greys. It would have given me another 6 colors to work with, but I wanted to keep the image warm, so....warm grays it was!<br />

A quick little card that I used a Nestabilities set on that cut and embossed around the image for me.<br />Every time I use it, I can't believe I only own one of them!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn4_Fmtvc6qvJAmdweKgs2pKDDn0WqZzFl6AsMXORu-0i93JsIDhim7Bcp-yjTFbswvlMDgIlHGX12BgxKMD1rP7xv5l4Qzd7nC1TwtvjJI3gYOZgks59uCkxmHePmcv2EYMGXZjrSyX14/s1600/art.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn4_Fmtvc6qvJAmdweKgs2pKDDn0WqZzFl6AsMXORu-0i93JsIDhim7Bcp-yjTFbswvlMDgIlHGX12BgxKMD1rP7xv5l4Qzd7nC1TwtvjJI3gYOZgks59uCkxmHePmcv2EYMGXZjrSyX14/s1600/art.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

Found some time this evening to unwind and still had the holidays on my mind. I was able to score loads of Christmas paper from some good sales last month that I simply adore!<br />When creating a card the first thing I do is choose some designer paper to showcase my image. This one happens to measure 6"x6". I can get 4 backgrounds out of a 12"x12" sheet. I've been cutting and storing the extras in a 6"x6" box and it makes it so much easier to be able to grab from a stash that is already cut and waiting for me.<br /> From there I lay the image on top the designer paper and start selecting my colors for the image that will play off the background design. This design had me thinking vintage, so I chose all warm colors.<br />*Note even the greys are warm. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigLoMi8HfaeMsJ6qamprau5Yx9pv3fvAHTNBPjzrZcNHm_VlGnH3snd8bG3lcuv2RB09KSgvRiLQa6_dg-gOcI7W1cWmhRdqYToSJK1XiRP5zeNOd96AR2yxOYJWHCZgxhQU02Xmd8pdN2/s1600/copic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigLoMi8HfaeMsJ6qamprau5Yx9pv3fvAHTNBPjzrZcNHm_VlGnH3snd8bG3lcuv2RB09KSgvRiLQa6_dg-gOcI7W1cWmhRdqYToSJK1XiRP5zeNOd96AR2yxOYJWHCZgxhQU02Xmd8pdN2/s1600/copic.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
When coloring the image above some colors were applied in several layers to achieve a darker color that I wanted. Hopefully I'll be able to treat myself to a few new markers soon and add to my collection!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If you take a good look at the little lady's coat and the boy's blue jeans you'll see they have a textured look. To achieve that you'll need the "Various Ink" by Copic. It's really fun to find swatches of different material laying around the house and experiment. You'll always find a denim swatch in my Copic accessory pouch!<br />It's very simple to do. Just remove the cap and dampen your swatch and lay it across the already colored image area that you'd like to add texture to. Just a quick pat is all it takes!<br />If you hit an area you didn't want textured, just grab a marker and touch it up again.<br /><br />A couple of other techniques used was to outline the image using the W0 color. It's very, very light. It's a great way to give the image a faint shadow and add some dimension. Look closely and you'll see I also used a sponge technique to ground the image so it doesn't appear to be floating.<br />Leslie Nyholmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02503481828199524615noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4631869247893553278.post-23655566965420393532014-12-14T19:16:00.001-08:002014-12-14T19:22:47.315-08:00Sunday Stroll<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My young daughter found my markers packed away in the closet and started asking questions. I thought it'd be easier just to show her. She loves them and we had a wonderful time tonight making winter cards!</div>
<br />
For this image we patted the stamp with Staze On ink. It's the best by far for nice, solid black, clean images that don't bleed. We used just a few markers. In order to get the blended look, with limited colors, we colored over the first layer a few times, in small circles, for a darker look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRLP1C9Isso_0_H8lWG-pCp68K6iZUqnMk8PXb1uqjs855z474ldOkAjkFQ1ujwaB2KQrQrQmOQP36JNhEE5zB0XdgOge08DtUcLNVaAYUXXIti9H0bwMIJ2L_RamZWDr3ZaiYbs0hDCn7/s1600/copic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRLP1C9Isso_0_H8lWG-pCp68K6iZUqnMk8PXb1uqjs855z474ldOkAjkFQ1ujwaB2KQrQrQmOQP36JNhEE5zB0XdgOge08DtUcLNVaAYUXXIti9H0bwMIJ2L_RamZWDr3ZaiYbs0hDCn7/s1600/copic.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For the appearance of snow in the background, we took a post it note and tore the one end and placed it where we wanted the highlights. Then using a light grey ink pad (Stampin Up), we took a small sponge and tapped it numerous times on the ink pad and then immediately tapped it on the edge of out post it note's torn side.<br />
You can have so much fun with this! Try different colors, like blues and browns for different effects!<br />

The theme of the swap was Winter Forest and this is what came into mind for me. Two separate stamp sets, both from Stampin' Up. Basically, how it worked was, you would make a "kit" for every person in that group. Each kit would include a stamped image, designer paper, some embellishments and whatever else you wanted to include. Upon recieving the kit, you would then assemble them and send them out to each member. In return you would receive "their" cards that they had made. It was so fun to see how different everyone made their cards using the same supplies you had received.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Of course, for cowgirl reasons I love it, but I aslo love it because it challenges me so much everytime I color it. There's the sky and the ground and that pesky fence. The biggest challenge for me is not to keep reaching for the brown markers! I used the "0" blender with the cotten pad again, just because. I also used the Nestibilites and an embossing plate from sizzix. The plate was a recent gift to myself. :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Do you like his Silver Belly Stetson? Should he be riding a Palamino? Experimenting with backgrounds yet! I used the "0" blender on this one again along with the cotton pad. I used it on the grass as well and really like how it turned out! I think I might promote myself to another Nestibilites.....this is my one and only and there so fun and simple to use. Do you have any favorites?<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihPVpbnsr8YcE3APW-J_aAM-EkPikv9CHm2AhLr2GP8MXG6dXe1hsHa6eu3yYUwN3KthbWzvTDdDPy1f9OT_lU34F5um_J91jJetgWg2mPi7fKfM0bR0KXpeVL_LZx6xkhrdUKoKdbiY52/s1600/Spring+2011+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" i8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihPVpbnsr8YcE3APW-J_aAM-EkPikv9CHm2AhLr2GP8MXG6dXe1hsHa6eu3yYUwN3KthbWzvTDdDPy1f9OT_lU34F5um_J91jJetgWg2mPi7fKfM0bR0KXpeVL_LZx6xkhrdUKoKdbiY52/s320/Spring+2011+013.JPG" width="240" /></a>Leslie Nyholmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02503481828199524615noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4631869247893553278.post-21160939414483960802011-04-18T22:07:00.000-07:002011-04-18T22:07:41.458-07:00"Oh for a horse with wings!"<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Don't you just love Shakespeare?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I love this set from Stampin' Up and it's the first time I used it with Copics!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I had a vision and it's safe to say it came close. Next time I want to play with the horses coat and add some texture to it. I recently purchased lots of the warm grey Copics.....that's why your seeing a lot of grey horses. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I pulled out the "0" colorless blender bottle as well again. Tackling those backgrounds and decided on this technique. I grabbed a faithful cotten circle pad (face cleaning type) and added a couple drops of the blender to it and daped it on the sky/sunset for a cloudy effect. I also kept going right on into the dust/ground for some texture as well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then just built a simple card with Nestibilites and an embossing plate.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

This is my very first "Challenge" I signed up for after procrastinating for years! I found this great blog one night when I was shopping on Ebay. They have an awesome store with some great buys and finds! As an added perk, I found they had a blog as well that offered some fabulous prizes.......so why not?!<br />
<br />
The rules were simply, become a follower of the blog and create an "Easter" design. Gotta like that! The best part? A quiet sunny Sunday morning spent with my daughter working on our projects together!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnUksebiQrlsuEJlaXFv-JxAs5d3SyygCRCv3-0I-Ye4Y9_ofepkzWA182J8K8WAmVXxoCDZRWR29sqyRCTViDBdGWbO-kL6jKUQVj6ErPcbZT31yokAa8OHVQzKPHBFJ0CD0ppOEAEF5v/s1600/Spring+2011+020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnUksebiQrlsuEJlaXFv-JxAs5d3SyygCRCv3-0I-Ye4Y9_ofepkzWA182J8K8WAmVXxoCDZRWR29sqyRCTViDBdGWbO-kL6jKUQVj6ErPcbZT31yokAa8OHVQzKPHBFJ0CD0ppOEAEF5v/s320/Spring+2011+020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>There are some things you just don't share....like Copics....therefore my daughter used good o'l crayolas on her entry for Papa Murphy's and I hogged all the Copics to myself for my card.<br />
<br />
On my Easter card, I used a stamp from Stamin' Up and many, many copics. For some finer details I used a pattern tracer and then fauxed stiched it in pink and added a flower/brad for a spring time look....since it just snowed out here yesterday in Mn....we added the flower for some reassurance that Spring, one day, will come.Leslie Nyholmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02503481828199524615noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4631869247893553278.post-18698726804657585492011-03-27T15:23:00.000-07:002011-03-27T15:23:25.216-07:00Giddy Up!It's been a quiet day here today and I managed to find a few minutes to color and even go from there and build the entire card! Naptime is a beautiful thing....<br />
I found this stamp on Ebay and thought he'd like to join me and the other western stamps around here! It's the first time I've used it and I had fun with it. Struggled again with a shadow and thought about adding some background details, but maybe next time.....naptime didn't last long!<br />

This was my first color with it and I really struggled with the ground.....as you can probably tell! Glad I have the stamp for endless images to practice with. Next time I'll add some clouds to the background as well.<br />

Good news is, if you screw up...just add your color back in and try again!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhzNuNQ7Nz8Fiu7DztNNXN722ks-OTPC4PUMjDr4IpnoBin-PQnItRmsjZyxbGwAs_wj0QMC86eb_mgW-sMuHu1PZ3DHiZcou0xSbgQ06P1jkBPF1Fk2x9iGoUBi00Es5Sz0ANHB2rhcn5/s1600/winter+2011+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhzNuNQ7Nz8Fiu7DztNNXN722ks-OTPC4PUMjDr4IpnoBin-PQnItRmsjZyxbGwAs_wj0QMC86eb_mgW-sMuHu1PZ3DHiZcou0xSbgQ06P1jkBPF1Fk2x9iGoUBi00Es5Sz0ANHB2rhcn5/s320/winter+2011+002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Leslie Nyholmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02503481828199524615noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4631869247893553278.post-12204842369773396202011-02-22T20:30:00.000-08:002011-02-22T20:30:24.580-08:00Enjoy the Journey!I received this image in an "image swap". Thought he was pretty cute and really enjoyed coloring him. My favorite part is the crystal effects on his goggles! <br />

That was one tiny area to color and I can't believe I used as many colors as I did! Did I mention it was tiny?<br />
<br />
This was for a "snowman" card swap on SCS. I had a snowman image in mind and for whatever reason decided to go with this small wheel image by Stampin' Up. I did really enjoy the Northern Flurry embossing plate (SU) that our UPS man was so kind to bring me today! <br />
<br />
Check out the colors those three buds are wearing! The black .3 "multi liner" helped me out with parts of the image that didn't quite get enough ink, which allowed me to practice freehand! :)<br />

<span style="color: #a64d79;"> I colored this up today for a swap on SCS. I was short on time, so it needed to be a simple, quick assembly.</span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79;">It was the first time I used the grey Copics. The very first Copic color I purchased was black. Black.....of all their colors....I chose black. Then I learned all about the grey families and had to get some in my possession! I don't care to mix the warm greys with the cool greys, it just looks awkward. But my stash is limited, so I had to make do with what I had!</span></span></div></span>Leslie Nyholmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02503481828199524615noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4631869247893553278.post-29678178164516971842010-10-15T22:17:00.000-07:002010-10-15T22:17:24.684-07:00Bloggin'Wow...I'm pretty amazed with myself right now!
